It was just another day at the office for the seventh-ranked Decatur Lady Eagles Tuesday, as they continued to take care of business in District 9-3A.
Their winning streak in district matches is still intact after a three-game sweep of the Krum Lady Bobcats.
Decatur (26-7, 3-0) took the match 25-14, 25-16, 25-11.
“Everybody stepped up and did a good job tonight,” coach Claire Benedict said. “We passed decently. We still need to use our serve as a threat, run different options in the offense and get the ball to our middles as much as we can.”
The Lady Eagles got off to a 9-2 start in game one, before Krum took a timeout. The Lady Bobcats got as close as 19-12 late, but Decatur put them away on a Caroline Lowery ace, capping a 5-2 run.
Decatur jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the second game before Krum started chipping away again. Krum got within 18-14, but Decatur didn’t allow it to get any closer.
Courtnie Roberts hammered down a kill that ignited a 7-2 run to end the second set. Lowery ended it again, this time with one of her nine kills on the night.
“Krum is a scrappy team,” Benedict said. “They’ve got some offensive weapons, and it’s good for us to see some good attackers. It’s good to see some heat coming back over the net at us. It’s good for our defense.”
The Lady Eagles cruised in the third game, dominating from start to finish.
Lowery finished with nine kills, 14 digs, three blocks and three aces. Cooper Martin had 12 kills and five digs. Makayla Mayfield added seven kills and five digs.
Dylana Hutchins recorded four kills. Stormi Leonard led in assists with 27 and had two aces, two kills and eight digs.
The team will travel to Sanger Tuesday.
