Lady Eagles primed for playoffs

By Clay Corbett | Published Saturday, November 2, 2013

Decatur polished off a perfect 8-0 district run Tuesday with a sweep of Gainesville. For the fifth consecutive season, the fourth-ranked Lady Eagles (30-7, 8-0) have not lost a district match or even a set.

It’s a remarkable feat for a team that has its eyes set on another deep run into the postseason.

Decatur opens the playoffs Tuesday against Aubrey at Denton Ryan High School. Game time is 6:30 p.m.

Aubrey is coming off a loss to No. 1 Argyle in its final regular season game. They finished fourth in District 10-3A.

The Lady Eagles have won nine straight games heading into the playoffs, with their last loss also coming to Argyle back on Sept. 24.

With wins in the first two rounds, Decatur and Argyle would meet again in the regional quarterfinals.

Argyle opens its postseason against the team Decatur defeated Tuesday, Gainesville.

The Lady Eagles won that match 25-14, 25-10, 25-16.

Makayla Mayfield led the way with 11 kills, 12 digs, and an ace. Cooper Martin finished with 11 kills, nine digs and two aces.

Caroline Lowery added 16 digs, 10 kills and two aces. Stormi Leonard dished out 22 assists, had 21 digs, two kills and two aces.
