Decatur’s Drew Jones has a seven-stroke lead after the first two rounds of the 57th annual Texas/Oklahoma Junior Golf Tournament in Wichita Falls.
Jones carded a 4-under 68 Monday and a 7-under 65 Tuesday to jump out in front of the 14/15 age group. He hit 17 of 18 greens in regulation en route to a two-stroke lead after day one.
The University of Texas-bound golfer finished fifth in the event last year.
Another Decatur golfer, recent graduate Dylan Rottner, shot a first-round 77. Rottner, who is bound for Texas Wesleyan, is 10 shots off the pace going into the second round of the boys open championship division.
Bridgpeort’s Lexi Read also got off to a good start with an opening-round 79 in the 14/15 girls group. She trails Plano’s Camille Enright by 10 shots and is only six strokes out of second place.
Approximately 350 players compete in the tournament, which spans three different golf courses in the Wichita Falls area.
