Jones cruises to title; Decatur freshman destroys field by nine shots

Drew Jones led from start to finish at the Texas/Oklahoma Junior Golf Tournament in Wichita Falls this week, easily taking the overall title.

He led by two strokes at the end of the first round and built his lead to nine by the end of Wednesday’s third round. Jones carded a 9-under 203 in the 14/15 age group with rounds of 68, 65 and 70.

Two golfers finished tied for second with a total of 212. Jones finished fifth in the same tournament a year ago, when he carded a 213.

More than 350 golfers from across three states and Mexico competed in the event, including two other Wise County golfers.

Bridgeport’s Lexi Read finished in a tie for 10th with a three-round total of 240 in the girls 14/15 division. She fired rounds of 79, 83 and 78. She took 19th last year.

Camille Enright of Plano captured first with a 214, winning by nine strokes.

Decatur’s Dylan Rottner qualified for the final round in the 16/18 division. Rottner finished right on the cut line with a three-day total of 230 after rounds of 77, 75 and 78. On Thursday he fired a final round of 79 to finish with a 309.
