The Slidell Greyhounds had a quick start in the opening period Tuesday, grabbing an early lead and holding off the Midway Falcons’ frantic late onslaught for a slim 59-56 victory.Greyhounds forward Gracjan Pietrka led all scorers with 14 points, followed by guard Tyler Maynard with 13 and forward Trent Garrett with 12.
Midway scrambled to close the gap, but Slidell (21-3, 4-1) countered every Falcon run.
It wasn’t until the fourth period that Midway finally made some headway. The Falcons got within three points in the final minute but their offense wasn’t able to sink the equalizer.
Slidell Coach Todd McCormick said the game got tough when the Falcons made their late run.
“They just started making plays that we knew they could make,” McCormick said. “They were hitting shots, but we got our lead and were able to hold on to it.”
Isaac Davis added 11 for Slidell while Scott Bingham tossed in five. Jarrett Tinsman and Colton Perkins each had two.
The Greyhounds return home Tuesday to host Saint Jo.
