Crafton settles in

With the first few days of practice behind her, Boyd’s new head volleyball coach Dusty Crafton is starting to settle in.

After working on installing her system, workouts and terminology, things went smoother on Wednesday.

“A lot of stuff is kind of foreign to them, but today [Wednesday] was a good day of practice” Crafton said.

Thirty-one players reported the first day of workouts. That number was down to 25 by Tuesday.

“The ones that are here are working very hard,” Crafton said. “They feel and I feel it’s going to pay off for them.”

Crafton said they are really focusing on one aspect of the game in the first week of practice.

“We have to do a lot of ball control,” she said. “We probably still aren’t doing enough ball control.”

The Lady Jackets began their season with a scrimmage Friday at Bridgeport and will scrimmage again Saturday at Paradise.

“I want to get some good looks at different kids in different positions,” Crafton said. “We are going to move them around a lot because I have kids that can play multiple positions.

“I’m not really sure where the best fit is yet. Our ball control is going to affect that. As the ball control comes, our offense will probably change.”

Boyd opens the regular season Tuesday when they host Keene.
