Chico adds boy to statebound team

Daniel Salinas became the latest Chico Dragon to advance to the state powerlifting meet.

Salinas finished second at the regional meet in Ponder Saturday after lifting a total of 745 pounds in the 114 class. He missed first place by a total of five pounds. The state meet will be held this Saturday in Corpus Christi.

He joins six Lady Dragons that will also be competing at the state meet for the first time.

The Chico Dragons picked eighth placed as a team at the regional meet.

His younger brother, Armando Salinas, took sixth place in the same class, with a total of 650. He missed a fifth place medal by 10 pounds.

Also for the Dragons, Trevor Richard captured third in the 123 class with a total of 830. He will be a state alternate.

Freshman Tyler Melton took eighth place with a total of 1150 in the 275 class.

Super heavy weight Jimmy Schuetz lifted his way to a fourth-place finish with a total of 1360.

Paradise’s Kelton Dethloff led the Panthers with a third -place finish in the 148 class with a total of 1,095. After lifting a total of 1,070 in the same class, Kristoff Pewitt was fourth.

In the 220 class, Taylor Edwards captured fourth with a total of 1,265, and super heavyweight Luke Miller place tenth with a total of 940.

Garrett Ragsdale was the lone Boyd representative at the regional meet, and finished seventh in the 198 class with a total of 1,135.
