The Bridgeport Bulls (4-1) rolled to three wins at the North Texas Tournament of Champions.
Bridgeport knocked out Burkburnett in their finale, 15-6. The Bulls collected 15 hits. Erik Delgadillo and Alex Samples had three hits each. Damian Delgado and Reese Read both had two hits.
Dillon Waldrep picked up the win in his first start.
“We came out a little flat to begin with, and after a successful squeeze bunt by Jake Hulsey that scored two runs, we got things going,” said Bridgeport coach Ted Leps. “We had a pretty successful tournament. We got a lot of work on much needed game situations. There is a lot to improve before we get to district competition.”
Earlier Saturday, Bridgeport dismantled Lake Worth 17-1. Read and Omar Martinez each had three hits and Martinez finished with seven RBI’s. Delgado took the win.
On Friday the Bulls lost a pitcher’s duel to Princeton, 2-1. Dalton Hudson, Read and Martinez each had a hit.
In the tournament opener, Bridgeport got past Castleberry, 18-1. Samples had two hits and three RBI’s.
Read had a double and three RBI’s. He also pitched all four innings, allowing two hits, and striking out five for the win.
