Bulls take three in own tournament

A Stephen Howdeshell free throw with 32 seconds left sent the Bridgeport Bulls to overtime where they eventually defeated Lindsay, 52-50 in the first round of the Bridgeport Tournament.

The Bulls fell behind twice in the extra frame until an Alex Samples 3-pointer tied the game at 50-50 with 1:33 left. Howdeshell added the winning field goal a few seconds later.

It took a great second half effort from the Bulls to get the game tied. A dreadful second quarter left them trailing 27-19 at the half.

The Bulls held Lindsay to four third quarter points to get the game tied 31-31 going to the fourth period.

Samples led the way with 15, and Reese Read finished with 14. Blake Arrington added 11. Howdeshell tossed in 10.

In the second round, Bridgeport fell to Iowa Park 63-58. Samples finished with 18, and Howdeshell scored 16.

Bridgeport edged Crandall in the third-round, 59-57. Samples had another good game with 17 and Read finished with 18. Howdeshell added 12.

In their final game Saturday, Bridgeport wrapped up their third win of the tournament with a 41-34 victory over Graham.

Howdeshell finished with 15, and Jonahthan Nabors added 13. Samples tossed in 10.

The Bulls will host Mineral Wells Friday.
