Bulls split a pair

The Bridgeport Bulls (13-10) fell to Alvarado Monday, 52-47 in their final game before district play.

“We played very well tonight,” Bridgeport coach Brian Miller said. “We had to fight through foul trouble, having two starters pick up their fourth foul with three minutes to go in the third quarter. We have been playing our best ball of late and hope we can carry it into district.”

The Bulls tied the game with under two minutes to go, but the Indians hit a 3-pointer with 38 seconds left to take the lead. The Bulls got some looks down the stretch but could not capitalize.

Alex Samples led the way with 18 and Stephen Howdeshell added 11. Reese Read finished with eight. Derrick Stanford and Blake Arrington each had four.

On Friday the Bulls defeated Mineral Wells, 54-40.

“We played a solid game tonight on both ends of the court,” Miller said.

Samples led the way with 15, and Read finished with 14. Stanford and Howdeshell each tossed in eight. Arrington scored seven.
