Bulls seek better execution

By Clay Corbett | Published Wednesday, September 11, 2013

It was not the performance the Bridgeport Bulls were looking for Friday night against Abilene Wylie.

The offense couldn’t get out of its own way, and the defense found itself in bad situations all night long. With an extra day to prepare, Bridgeport hopes to get a lot of things corrected before Saturday.

The Bulls (0-2) take on the Iowa Park Hawks (1-1) Saturday at Wichita Falls Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

“We went up against a good team, and we didn’t play very well,” Bridgeport coach Danny Henson said about the loss. “Their defense shut us down, and we had bad execution offensively.”

The Bulls had trouble sustaining drives and consequently, gave Wylie short fields to set up their scoring drives.

Henson says he will use the extra practice this week to stress those areas of concern.

“We are struggling in offensive execution and we’ve got to work on the kicking game too,” Henson said. “We need to get those things corrected to help our defense.”

Another setback is running back Chase Collins will still be out this week with the knee injury suffered against Alvarado.

The Hawks are coming off a 21-2 loss to Gainesville. They defeated Pampa in their opener 36-12.

“They are playing pretty good right now,” Henson said of Iowa Park. “They rely heavily on their running game, but you have to guard their passing game too.”
