The Bridgeport Bulls came away with a ninth-place finish at the Class 3A Region II golf tournament Monday and Tuesday at Tanglewood.
Bridgeport shot a two day total of 676. Argyle finished first with a 614, and Decatur was second with a 630. The Bulls finished the year with their best score of the year on the second day when they fired a 330.
“We had a great second day,” Bridgeport coach Alan Green said. “We took 16 strokes off our score from the first round. It was great to have that kind of scoring in our final tournament.”
Brayden Garrett led the way for the Bulls with an 82 and a 74.
“He played really well,” Green said. “He played great the second day, taking eight strokes off his score. The two over par 74 in the final round was his best score of the year.”
Ty Reed had solid rounds of 86 and 89. Blake Boyd broke 90 for the first time this year in the opening round with an 88. He fired a 103 on the second day.
“The two seniors, Dylan Benham and Scott Trickel played some of the best golf of their high school careers down the stretch on the back nine,” Green said. “They hit some great shots in the end, and it was great to seen them go out the way they did.”
Benham shot a 93 in the first round and an 81 on day two. Trickel fired a 90 and an 86.
“I really enjoyed the opportunity to be a part of all these young men this year,” Green said. “These boys had a lot of support at the regional tournament. The parents have invested a lot of time and energy into their golf. It was great to see that work pay off.”
