The Boyd Yellowjackets are coming off a much-needed bye week as they get ready for their final three district games.
Boyd picked up wins in two of their first three league contests and with a victory at Ponder this week can put themselves in good position for the postseason.
Ponder (2-6, 0-4) hosts the Yellowjackets (2-5, 2-1) Friday at Ponder Field. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
“Things went well,” Boyd head coach Brandon Hopkins said about the bye week. “We like to stay in routine as much as possible. It gave us an extra week to get ready for Ponder.”
The Lions defeated Alvord and Nocona early in the year but have struggled so far in league play. They are coming off a 27-14 loss to Callisburg.
“They are a little scary,” Hopkins said. “Their quarterback runs the ball well. They have the ability to break big plays and will throw a lot of different formations at you.”
If the Yellowjackets can get some stops, the offense is continuing to improve.
“Clay [Barnett] is continuing to do a good job at quarterback, and sometimes we put Fino there for an added wrinkle,” Hopkins said. “Our line played well against Callisburg. That’s the big key for us is when our line plays well.”
Barnett has passed for 758 yards so far this season, and Cardona is just shy of 1,100 rushing yards.
