Alvord’s offense continues to impress as the 2013 football season gets ready to kick off.
After another good outing against Callisburg in their final scrimmage, the Bulldogs look primed and ready to play for keeps.
They will battle the Millsap Bulldogs Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at Millsap.
“I’m pleased with how we are playing offensively,” head coach Curtis Enis said. “The passing game looks good, and the running game was all right against Callisburg.”
Starting running back Joe Randall had a nice start, but took a hit to his chin early in the scrimmage. He was held out the rest of the way for precautionary reasons. Randall is expected to start Friday, however.
Jonathan Musgrave is still out, but should return next week. Kyle Dunn is still about four weeks from being back on the field.
Offensive and defensive lineman Evyn Beasley should be ready in three to four weeks after a doctor visit last week.
“I’m hoping to have everybody back by the Gunter game,” Enis said. “We would have that game and then a week off before district.”
Despite the injuries, Enis is ready for the season.
“I’m excited to get going and get these young kids some game experience,” Enis said. “I like their attitude right now.”
Alvord should gain confidence early against Millsap. The Bulldogs rolled to a 62-7 win in this contest last year.
With all the weapons Alvord can throw out there this week, it should be another great matchup.
“We want to mix it up with our run and pass,” Enis said. “We’ve got to get the ball to our kids in space.”
When Randall isn’t running the ball, junior quarterback Cassidy Patterson has done a great job of finding the open man.
This is a game where the young quarterback could gain a lot of confidence, before going into the meat of Alvord’s pre-district schedule.
