Alvord takes consolation

The Alvord Lady Bulldogs captured the consolation championship at the Whataburger Tournament over the weekend.

Alvord edged Bowie, 43-37 on Saturday to take the title as Katie Claborn was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Lady Bulldogs led by only a point heading to the fourth quarter, but were able to hold on for the win.

Lauren Hart led the way against Bowie with 16.

In the consolation semifinal, Alvord defeated Saginaw 47-36.

Claborn scored 26 and Marissa Schedcik added 10.

In the second round of the tournament, Alvord easily got past Sanger 52-35.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 21-6 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.

Claborn led the way once again with 16.

Crawford took down Alvord in the opening round, 67-44.

Claborn scored nine in the loss.

Alvord continues district play Friday when they host Millsap.
