Alvord pitching dominates Paradise

Alvord’s Makena Mader struck out 15 Tuesday, dominating the Paradise Lady Panthers’ (7-8, 1-2) lineup en route to a 10-0 win in six innings. The victory moves Alvord to 2-1 in district play.

Mader struck out the first six batters of the game and did not allow a base runner till the third inning.

Alvord would get all the runs they needed in the first. Hannah Willett led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Mader reached base on an error that scored Willett for the first run of the game.

Kala Cash followed with a sharp single up the middle to bring home Mader giving the Lady Bulldogs an early, 2-0 lead.

Paradise had the tying runs aboard in the third, but Regan Taylor struck out to end the inning.

Alvord padded their lead in the fourth. With one out, Kayli Baker reached on a single, then stole second base. After a pop out, the Lady Bulldogs connected on three straight singles. They scored three runs in the frame to take the score to 5-0.

The Lady Bulldogs would add another run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Cash, to give them a 6-0 advantage heading to the sixth.

The Lady Panthers had their final scoring threat in the sixth. With one out, Taylor Rector reached on an infield single. She advanced to third on an error by Cash, putting two runners on. After a strikeout, Tiffany Stinnett then walked to load the bases with two outs.

With the pressure on, Mader came through again with another strikeout to end the threat and preserve the Alvord lead.

The Lady Bulldogs put things away in the sixth. Megan Hastings had an RBI single. Kandi Rose followed with a walk, and Willett brought both home with another single.

Cash later ended the game due to the mercy rule with an RBI single.

Both teams will be back in action Tuesday when Brock travels to Paradise and Alvord hosts Boyd.
