Project to provide seniors free computers

By Debra Parker | Published Saturday, September 14, 2013

Thanks to the hard work of an extremely talented, generous and ambitious lady, Mrs. Pamela Brown, we at the Decatur Senior Citizen Center (a nonprofit organization) are in the wonderful position to be able to offer completely free a computer to any Wise County senior citizen who wishes to own one but cannot afford it.

Mrs. Brown is collecting and refurbishing computers from all over the county for this purpose and promises to have them ready for distribution at the Decatur Senior Citizen Center Christmas Party, tentatively scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013.

All seniors 55 and older are always welcome at the center. If you are, or if you know someone who is a senior and would like a computer, please feel free to contact Mrs. Brown or me.

If you are in a position to donate a computer, keyboard, flat-screen monitors or money to help buy needed parts, please don’t hesitate to come by, call or email. This is a very large and important undertaking, and we are very happy and proud to be a part of it.

We welcome notepads, tablets, laptops, etc., but no large, non-flat-screen monitors as they are much too bulky and heavy.

Also, if you have room at your business or in a central location in your area to allow others to drop off their items, that would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance for the help, and we are looking forward to seeing so many of you in December.

All computers will be downloaded with games and will be Internet-ready; however Internet connecting and fees will be the responsibility of the recipient.

Contact me at 940-627-6096 or Dparker000@aol.com, or contact Pamela Brown at pameladbrown613@yahoo.com or call her at 940-399-8053.
