Thank you to Erika Pedroza for the very well-written article about Pat Scott and the long-running memorial scholarship established in his memory in the June 5, 2013, issue of the Wise County Messenger. I truly enjoyed reading about Pat Scott and learning more about his life and who he was as a person.
It has been a fitting tribute to this outstanding young man that 73 Decatur High School graduates, over a period of 43 years, have received a scholarship in Pat’s name to help them pursue further education and careers.
My son, Casey Carter, was the proud recipient of the Pat Scott Memorial Scholarship in 1989. He went on to graduate from the University of North Texas with a bachelor of science in criminal justice, and he is a lieutenant with the Lewisville Police Department.
Casey, his dad and I have always appreciated the sacrifice Pat Scott made in Vietnam, and the love, encouragement and thoughtfulness of Pat’s family and friends in turning that tragedy into a legacy that has helped so many local young people achieve success in their lives. Even though the scholarship has now come to an end, we will never forget.
