County crew goes above and beyond

Just a note to recognize the excellent work of Precinct 2 Commissioner Kevin Burns, Department of Public Works Director Tom Goode and their workers.

Earlier this week a member of a special, longtime Alvord family passed away. When I went to mark the grave, I was sad to see the tall grasses (usually only in the fall season). It was very unattractive, almost knee-high.

Our cemetery board realizes we are only one of many Wise County cemeteries assisted by these workers, and we are on a scheduled rotation for mowing. With Monday being a holiday, I called early Tuesday pleading our plight, knowing it was short notice and many might be away for the holiday – but hoping somehow the fellows might come and at least mow in and around the grave site.

I’m so pleased to advise that by Wednesday morning the men were there performing their exemplary work. The service will be much less stressful to the many family members due to the kindness of these devoted men.

The citizens of Alvord commend the county for having such helpful servants. Our usual donation in no way matches our sincere appreciation for their service to our local cemeteries, which is often taken for granted. Good job!
