Young fishermen persevere despite water conditions

By Messenger Staff | Published Wednesday, June 19, 2013

Despite low water conditions and windy weather, 108 area children competed in the 22nd “Adopt-A-Fisherman” youth fishing tournament at Wise County Park on Lake Bridgeport last Saturday. While fishing conditions were as poor as the lake level, staff members from the Sid Richardson Boy Scout Camp provided and piloted three large pontoon boats allowing every child who wished to go out on the lake the opportunity to do so.

After the fish weigh-in conducted by the Hell’s Gate Bass Club of Mineral Wells, participants, parents and volunteers enjoyed a splendid hot dog lunch provided by lead event sponsors the Tarrant Regional Water District, Wise County Public Works and Texas Game Warden Association.

Heaviest fish prizes were presented for three places in the four age groups. Every participant was presented with the opportunity for a new rod and reel of their own in age-appropriate sizes.
