Decatur will officially welcome the Texas Army National Guard back to the community this Friday.

The 231st Engineer Support Company of Texas Army National Guard moved into the National Guard Armory, located on FM 730 near Decatur Municipal Airport, this past fall. The company, commanded by Capt. Amber Meyers, will get an official welcome ceremony at 2 p.m. this Friday, Jan. 11, at the armory.

Dignitaries with the Texas Army National Guard will be on hand along with representatives from the city of Decatur and Wise County Veterans Group.

No company has been housed in the armory for several years, although the guard has maintained a recruiting office at the location.

The 231st Engineering Support Company is under the orders of the 111th Engineer Battalion at Camp Bowie, under the command of Lt. Col. Paul Cerniauskus.

The 111th Engineer Battalion has companies housed in Lewisville, Stephenville, Weatherford, Denton, Abilene, San Angelo, Brownwood – and now, Decatur.
