Sunday afternoon blaze likely arson

{{{*}}}Although the structure fire in Bridgeport Sunday hasn’t yet been ruled arson, investigators have strong indications it is.

A person of interest has even been detained on unrelated charges.

Bridgeport Police Department and State Fire Marshal’s Office investigators were to continue their Monday investigation on Tuesday, when they were to bring a canine to the now-gutted home, located in the 700 block of Second Street.

“That’ll alert us if an accelerant was used to cause the fire,” said Bridgeport Police Sgt. Todd Low. “That will be the key at this point.”

To finalize the investigation, officials were to talk to witnesses, who say they saw a woman pouring a liquid around the abandoned home.

Lake Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Department helped Bridgeport extinguish the fire, which was toned out about 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
