Power was restored on the Chico side within three hours, but customers in Alvord were likely to be without electricity until about midnight Wednesday, Oncor area manager Sabrina Easley said.

The City of Chico made available the community room at City Hall for those affected by the outage. In addition, officials from the City of Alvord and Oncor established a cooling station at Alvord Middle School, 328 FM 1655, for anyone needing “to escape the heat and humidity.”

Although no cause has yet been determined, the failed transformer was damaged beyond repair and is being replaced. Work crews brought in a mobile unit for the interim.
