A stalled engine apparently caused a plane to crash, injuring its two occupants, Tuesday morning in Bridgeport.

A student pilot was practicing approaches over the Bridgeport Municipal Airport when the engine stalled, causing the plane to lose airspeed and set down in a farmer’s field just north of the airport, said Department of Public Safety Sgt. Lloyd McKinney.

The nose of the airplane came to a stop just a few feet away from a corrugated tin barn.

The injured pilot and passenger, Nazareth Zeytounian, 51, of Fort Worth, and Michael Read, 45, of Paradise, suffered broken bones and lacerations in the impact. Both were transported to Wise Regional Health System in Decatur.
