Always willing to share time and talents describes Marguarette Roberts.
For her selfnessness, the Decatur resident was named 2013 Club Woman of the Year. At the club’s meeting May 14, Sylvia Hornback made the announcement and presented Roberts with a plaque and a handmade, Turkish Istanbul glass serving piece.
The six-year Decatur Woman’s Club member has served on the fundraising/development, Tour of Homes and reporting committees. She has been ad sales coordinator, club reporter and was first vice president for two years before stepping down when she had spinal surgery.
Roberts is a retired Registered Nurse. She said she misses sharing her time and talent in the health care field.
She and her husband of 30 years, Travis, have five daughters who live in various states.
When the couple chose to retire nine years ago, they moved from El Paso to his hometown, where he has 10 brothers and sisters. As an only child, she delighted in that.
After the move, Roberts did not waste any time becoming involved. She began volunteering at Wise Regional Health System, where she serves as scholarship and publicity chair, historian and co-chair of the lobby front desk.
“Being in the hospital setting allows me to be near my great passion in life.”
In 2012, Wise Regional sponsored her to enter the Ms. Senior Wise County pageant, in which she was voted Ms. Congeniality.
Roberts is a member of First United Methodist Church in Decatur, where she is “ready to volunteer” wherever she is needed. She served as chair for local missions for two years and tries to keep up with the prayer shawl knitting group.
“[I] love the Decatur community, its marvelous history and, most of all, the wonderful people,” Roberts said. ” … [I] want to give [my] best to improve and maintain the community quality here and am always willing to assist anyone in the club.”
