Ribbon-cutting, reception planned at Wise Regional Bridgeport

Wise Regional Health System will celebrate the addition of the Bridgeport hospital to the countywide healthcare system this Friday, May 17.

The community is invited to come by, mingle and enjoy refreshments and cake during a Community Welcome Celebration 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon-cutting at 11:30.

The hospital, which was purchased out of bankruptcy by Wise Regional, has continued to operate its emergency room throughout the transition, which included some fairly extensive remodeling as well as computer and technology system upgrades.

The first procedure in the renovated surgery department took place on Tuesday, May 7, and the surgery floor has remained steadily busy since then according to Shannon Puphal, marketing and communications director for Wise Regional.

Most of the employees from the former North Texas Community Hospital remained on board – and many were already working at both Bridgeport and Decatur hospitals.

Now that the renovation is complete, the hospital is fully functional again, offering all the services it previously offered except for labor and delivery, and ICU. Those functions are being handled in Decatur.
