Retired educators name new leaders

The 2012-2013 officers for the Wise County Retired School Personnel are Bunny Perry, president; Betty Carson, first vice president; Johnnie McGraw, second vice president; Joyce Enis, treasurer; Marilyn Collins, secretary; and Jerry Howard, legislative chair.

The group meets at 11:30 a.m. on the last Tuesday of each month, September through May, at the Decatur Civic Center. Each gathering includes lunch, a business meeting and program. There are approximately 500 retired school personnel residing in Wise County, of whom 106 belong to the local organization. Fifteen new members were added this year.

Members have donated more than 300 books to be distributed among students attending the seven school districts, not including Northwest ISD, in Wise County. The recipients are students who would not otherwise have books of their own.

Each year they also give a scholarship to a graduating senior who is pursuing a degree in education. More than 14,000 volunteer hours were documented among members last year, and they are also involved in Region XI and the state organization, attending area meetings and workshops.
