Wise County Sheriff’s investigators are still trying to figure out the circumstances surrounding an accident that led to the death of a man and the recovery of a stolen vehicle.

The Crafton Volunteer Fire Department and Wise County EMS were dispatched to an injured person call near the intersection of County Roads 1770 and 1667 in northwest Wise County around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. Officers discovered a man who had fallen from the back of a pickup and seriously injured himself.

A helicopter was called to transport the patient to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, where he later died. According to the Tarrant County Medical Examiners website, the victim was identified as Brian Floyd, 36. The cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma of the head due to a fall from a moving vehicle. The death was ruled accidental.

At the scene of the accident, officers noticed a second car just down the road and found a passenger but no driver. The car had been reported stolen out of Fort Worth. The passenger, identified as Bradley Flournoy, 25, of Fort Worth, was arrested for public intoxication. Flournoy told officers someone picked him up in the car in Fort Worth but he didn’t know the car was stolen or the names of the others involved.

Wise County Sheriff David Walker said investigators determined the car’s driver and the pickup’s occupants fled in the pickup before officers arrived. He said Wise County investigators are working with Tarrant County on the case.

Walker said it is unknown why the people involved were in Wise County.
