If at first you don’t succeed, call another meeting.
That best sums up Wednesday’s scheduled Chico School Board meeting which will include two items that have resulted in 3-3 votes in the past couple of weeks.
The board met Wednesday, June 26, to consider the resignation of Chico Elementary Principal Colleen Netterville and to hire a new principal. They voted unanimously to accept Netterville’s resignation, but then split 3-3 on Superintendent Mike Jones’ recommendation of Karen Decker to fill the position.
Trustees Doug Bowyer, Paul Cantrell and Mark Tate voted in favor of the hire while G.A. Buckner, Donald Clark and Bill Hand voted against the hiring. Pancho Redwine was not in attendance.
Jones said the item will once again be on Wednesday’s agenda, and he plans to make the same recommendation when he expects all seven trustees will be present.
Netterville is leaving Chico to be a principal at another district.
Also on the agenda is the hiring of an architect who could provide cost estimates for possible bond projects should the board decide to present a bond package in the future.
That item was on the June 17 agenda, but the board voted 3-3 with Bowyer, Cantrell and Tate voting in favor and Buckner, Hand and Clark voting against the hire. Redwine was not in attendance.
The third item of business on Wednesday’s agenda will be to consider the hiring of an agriculture science position.
The meeting is 6:30 p.m. in the Chico Elementary School Cafetorium, 1120 Park Rd.
