Two men charged with stealing a pair of vehicles from an EMS company were caught red-handed with the vehicles in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Decatur last Friday.
Stephen A. Barrow, 28, of Gainesville, and Dennis R. Kerr, 22, of Krum, allegedly stole an 18-foot trailer loaded with an all-terrain vehicle and a utility vehicle belonging to Sacred Cross EMS in Denton early Friday morning.
After stealing the ATVs, Barrow and Kerr made their way to Wise County and parked in the Wal-Mart parking lot. It wasn’t long before an off-duty patrol sergeant with the Wise County Sheriff’s Office noticed the men altering the Sacred Cross ATV in the parking lot. He notified the office, who soon had the two men in custody.
Sacred Heart was still in the process of filing a theft report on the vehicles when they heard the men were arrested and the property was recovered.
Both men were charged with theft between $20,000 and $100,000, a third-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. As of Tuesday, both were still being held in Wise County Jail on $35,000 bond each.
Barrow had two prior arrests in Wise County, 2010 and 2012, both for possession of methamphetamine. Kerr was arrested in Wise County in 2009 for theft, and he’d recently been released from prison.
