Northwest ISD approves calendars

{{{*}}}The next two academic years will look a lot like this year for Northwest students, parents and teachers.

At its meeting Monday, the Northwest School Board adopted academic calendars for the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 school years, which observe most of the same holidays and schedules as the current year.

School will begin the fourth Tuesday in August – Aug. 26 in 2014 and Aug. 25 in 2015.

Students and staff will have one holiday in September – the first Monday of the month.

Students will have a week-long Thanksgiving break and will have two full weeks for Christmas. Classes will resume the first Tuesday in January both years.

The last day of school is the first Friday in June.

Each year the NISD District Education Improvement Council (DEIC), made up of parents, teachers and community members, develops and submits calendar options for the upcoming school years. Staff, parents and community offer additional input to the board.

By adopting two consecutive school calendars, the district hopes to aid parents, teachers and administrators as they plan student and district activities.
