LITTLE LIBRARY – Free Little Library in Boyd is now open outside the Boyd ISD Early Childhood Building (behind Allsups). It’s open to the public, and the books are free. You can take one and leave one at any time. The community project is organized by Texas Neighborhood Services-Head Start Boyd to promote school readiness for children under 5.


SUMMER BASH – Stagecoach Rehabilitation will host a Splash Into Summer Bash 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at 2108 15th St. in Bridgeport. There will be a water slide, slip-n-slide, dunk tank, games and prizes, cotton candy, hot dogs provided by Grace Fellowship Church and snow cones. Call 940-683-8500 for more information.

TOURNAMENT SPONSORSHIPS – Organizers of the Bridgeport Education Foundation Golf Tournament seek sponsors. Levels include hole sponsor for $150; A+ for $600, which includes a team, a hole sponsorship, lunch, cart, mulligan, large print on the tournament banner and a listing on the thank you ad; or Honors List for $1,000, which includes two teams, a hole sponsorship, lunch, cart, mulligan, bold large print on the tournament banner and a listing on the thank you ad.


VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT – The Bump Set Spike for Little Tikes Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament is Saturday, June 1, at the Chico gym. The first 15 teams with paid registration will be entered. Cost is $120 per team. The tournament is double elimination, and the winning team receives double their money. The event is a fundraiser for new Little Tikes playground equipment. BARBECUE SUPPER – The Chico Community Volunteer Fire Department will have its annual barbecue supper at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at Chico City Hall, 400 South Hovey St. Cost is $7 for adults, $4 for children 6 to 12, and free for age 5 and younger. The meal includes sliced brisket, chicken or smoked sausage, coleslaw, potato salad, beans, dessert and tea. Entertainment will be provided by the Buckner Band. Proceeds will be used for maintenance and operation of the fire hall and vehicles. Whole smoked briskets will be available for $50. HELP ALLSUP WIN – After being nominated by his students, Decatur High School ag teacher, Jim Allsup, has been named one of 12 finalists in the Justin Boots All-Star Ag Teacher Contest. Help him win the title, $5,000 and a pair of boots by voting for him through the month of May at

ANGELS CARE – Governor’s Ridge presents the Angels Care Community Education Series, Session 3 – “Manage Chronic Disease” – 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 30, in the Governor’s Ridge Terrace Dining Room. WIZARD OF OZ – McCarroll Middle School presents “The Wizard of Oz” at 7 p.m. Friday, May 31, and Saturday, June 1, at the Decatur High School Theatre. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. The play is directed by DHS senior Alex Carroll, and he is assisted by senior Marcus Pinon.

COMPUTER CLASSES – Decatur Public Library will hold computer classes in June on a variety of topics, including Job Searching and Resume Building, 10 a.m. to noon, Monday, June 10, and 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 11; Microsoft Excel, 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, June 10; and Microsoft Word, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 10. CHAMBER GARAGE SALE – The Paradise Chamber of Commerce will have a garage sale fundraiser 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at the Paradise Event Center, 3977 Texas 114. Items include desks, file cabinets, coffee tables, a couch and chairs.

FFA PLANTS – Slidell FFA is selling plants. Super petunias, geraniums and coleus are $2 per plant, or $36 for a flat of 18. Hanging baskets are $10, and marigolds, petunias, gazanias and zinnias are $14 per flat. Call the agriculture department for details at 940-466-3881, extension 229.


ANIMAL SHELTER APPRECIATION – Wise County Animal Shelter will host an appreciation day for all of its supporters 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 1. There will be rabies shots for $10, games, face-painting, hot dogs, and drinks. Attendees are encouraged to bring their pets to have their photos made with them. Animals will be available for adoption. All local businesses, rescuers, adopters, volunteers and anyone else who has helped the shelter are invited.

FAN DRIVE – The Wise County Committee on Aging will hold its second annual summer fan drive to distribute to seniors in need. Drop off your donations at Angels Care Home Health, Senior Care Health and Rehabilitation and the WCCA office, all in Decatur.

EARLY RELEASE – Northwest ISD campuses will dismiss early Thursday and Friday, June 6 and 7, at the following times: 12:15 p.m. (elementary schools); 1:05 p.m. (Steele AHS and Special Programs Center); 1:15 p.m. (BNHS and NHS); and 2 p.m. (middle schools).

LAST DAY – Friday, June 7, is the last day of school for Northwest ISD students.
