NTCH SCHOLARSHIPS – The Volunteer Auxiliary of Bridgeport’s North Texas Community Hospital will award five $1,000 scholarships to continuing education students, high school students, employees and children of employees of NTCH and individuals with a Wise County address. The Auxiliary encourages individuals to further their education in the medical field as physicians, nurses and laboratory technicians, as well as in hospital administration or social work. Applications are available at the hospital’s volunteer desk, Bridgeport and Decatur libraries and Wise County high schools. Download an application at Applications must be returned by April 2. CLAY SHOOT – The 6th Annual Barnett Shale Sporting Clay Shoot benefiting the Bridgeport Visitor Center is Thursday, April 25, at Northwest OHV Park, 2914 Texas 101, in Bridgeport. There will be a morning flight at 9 a.m. and afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Lunch will be served at noon. Fee is $100 per person or $500 for a five-man team. BUTTERFIELD BOOTHS – The Bridgeport Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications through May 3 for vendor booths for the Butterfield Stage Days Festival, which is Saturday, May 11, at Harwood Park. Fees for members are $50 for food/drink spaces without electricity or $55 with electricity; and $20 for art/craft/merchandise/game booths without electricity or $25 with electricity. For non-members, food/drink booths are $100 without electricity or $110 with electricity; and $40 for art/craft/merchandise/game set-ups without electricity or $50 with electricity. OPEN HOUSE – McCarroll Middle School Open House is 5:30 to 7 p.m. today.

WISE HOOPS – The Decatur Junior Woman’s Club’s 11th Annual Three-on-Three Basketball Tournament is Friday, March 22, at the Multi-Purpose Building at McCarroll Middle School. Play begins at 5 p.m., and divisions range from fifth and sixth grade girls and boys to men’s, women’s and co-ed. Registration is $140 per adult team and $100 per youth team. FOOD DRIVE – First Financial Bank in Decatur is collecting canned goods for Wise Area Relief Mission (WARM).


SPECIAL NEEDS BASEBALL – Registration for the Wise County Special Needs Baseball spring season is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays, March 9 and 16, at Bridgeport and Decatur public libraries. PAYING IT FORWARD FOR PROM – Donations of formal dresses, shoes, jewelry and cash are being collected at Patti’s Hair Parlor in Decatur through March for the second drive of Paying It Forward for Prom. Through the program, girls who couldn’t otherwise afford prom expenses volunteer community service hours in exchange for formal wear and accessories, hair-do’s, manicures and pedicures, facials and make-up application. SAVING COINS – Wise County Animal Shelter volunteers are asking people to save their loose change to benefit the shelter’s spay and neuter fund.

PECAN FIELD DAY – Wise County Texas A&M AgriLIfe Extension is hosting Pecan Field Day 9 a.m. Thursday, March 7, at Decatur Garden Center, 1551 Preskitt Rd. Cost is $15, which includes three continuing education units, two integrated pest management and one general. Speakers are Monte Nesbitt and Bill Ree, both program specialists with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, and Charles Rohla, PH.D. , pecan specialist with the Noble Foundation. They will discuss native and improved pecan orchard management, including young pecan orchard development, integrated pest management, training and pruning demonstrations, orchard floor renovations and maintenance, and fertility management. HOME AND GARDEN – Wise County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension is hosting a Spring Home and Garden Series starting later this month. The four-week program is 3 to 5 p.m. every Tuesday, starting March 26 and running through April 16, at the Extension office in Decatur, 206 S. State St. Cost is $40 for the entire series or $15 per seminar. Topics that will be addressed include vegetable gardening, fruit and nut tree management, turf management and landscape trees. CLUB SCHOLARSHIP – The Desk and Derrick Club of Wise County is offering scholarships to Wise County high school seniors. Applications can be obtained from the high school counselors or by emailing Crystal Watkins at Application deadline is Saturday, March 30.


VIDEO CONTEST – Help Chisholm Trail Middle School win $5,000 by watching their entry in the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) “Texas Public Schools Rock!” student video contest. REALTOR LUNCHEON – Northwest ISD will host a Realtor’s Luncheon 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 7, at the Administration Building to discuss current demographic projections and plans for new schools. SPRING BREAK – Northwest ISD schools and offices will be closed March 11 through 15 for spring break. Classes resume Monday, March 18.
