LIBRARY STORYTIME – Storytime at Bridgeport Public Library is 10:30 a.m. today for children ages 3 to 5; and 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, for toddler ages 18 months to 2 years.

3-ON-3 TOURNAMENT – Bridgeport Class of 2017 is having a three-on-three basketball tournament Friday, April 5, at the Bridgeport Middle School. Check-in is 4 p.m., and play begins at 5. Cost is $100 per team, and all entries must be received by noon Wednesday, March 27. Divisions are fourth and fifth grade boys; sixth grade boys; fourth and fifth grade girls; sixth grade girls; seventh and eighth grade boys; seventh and eighth grade girls; ninth to 12th grade boys; ninth to 12th grade girls; men’s, women’s and coed. UMPIRE CLINIC – A mandatory clinic for anyone wanting to umpire in the upcoming Bridgeport Youth Association baseball season is 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at the Bridgeport Community Center, 1102 Lawdwin Ave. Cost is $10. For information, call Heath Wilson at 940-577-9111.

CLAY SHOOT – The sixth-annual Barnett Shale Sporting Clay Shoot benefitting the Bridgeport Visitor Center is Thursday, April 25, at Northwest OHV Park, 2914 Texas 101, in Bridgeport. There will be a morning flight at 9 a.m. and afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Lunch will be served at noon. Fee is $100 a person or $500 for a five-man team. YOUNG DEDICATION – The Decatur High School Rodeo team is dedicating to the late Roy Young their rodeo 8 p.m. Friday, March 1, at the Wise County Sheriff’s Posse grounds. There will be a longhorn heifer raffle, silent auction, calf scramble and concessions. The rodeo continues 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

PINTEREST CLASS – Friday, March 1, is the deadline to register for the free, Pinterest Pretties Craft Classes at 6 p.m. on Thursdays, March 7, 14 and 21 At Grove First united Methodist Church, 1295 Greenwood Rd. FUN RUN – The first PTO Family Fun Run at Carson Elementary is 8 a.m. Saturday, March 2. Early registration ends Thursday, Feb. 28, and cost is $15 for adults and $10 for youth. On race day, cost is $25 for adults and $15 for youth. Proceeds benefit the purchase of new playground equipment.

FOOD DRIVE – First Financial Bank in Decatur is collecting canned goods for Wise Area Relief Mission (WARM).


CHAMBER LUNCHEON – The Paradise Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon is noon Monday, March 4, at the Rowe Building on Texas 114. Lunch is $10 a plate and will be catered by Sagebrush Caf . HISTORICAL SOCIETY – The Wise County Historical Society will meet for lunch noon Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Wise County Heritage Museum in Decatur. Treva Tindol Dawson, author of “Memories Along the Chisholm Trail,” will speak.

LVN-RN NURSING PROGRAM – Weatherford College Wise County is accepting applications for the Licensed Vocational Nursing to Registered Nursing program through Thursday, Feb. 28. WORLD DAY OF PRAYER – All churches in Wise County are invited to participate in the World Day of Prayer at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 1305 Deer Park Rd., in Decatur. A reception will follow. The World Day of Prayer is a worldwide movement of Christian women of different traditions who come together to observe a day of prayer each year. WALK ACROSS TEXAS – Wise County’s Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is sponsoring Walk Across Texas, an eight-week walking program that strives to improve wellness and physical activity among adults and youth. The free program begins Monday, March 4, and runs through Monday, April 29. It can be implemented with teams of eight people or school classes, and the team who walks farthest “across Texas” will win. Call 940-627-3341 or come by the Extension office at 206 S. PASTURE MANAGEMENT – The Wise County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is hosting a Pasture Management Workshop Wednesday, March 6, at the Boyd Community Center. Registration is at 10:30 a.m., and the program is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost for the workshop is $10, which includes two hours of general continuing education units for pesticide applicator license holders. Topics include managing and renovating summer pastures during a drought and pasture weed management. Speakers are Paul Baumann, professor and Extension weed specialist, and Larry Redmon, professor and Extension forage specialist. PECAN FIELD DAY – Wise County Texas A&M AgriLIfe Extension is hosting Pecan Field Day 9 a.m. Thursday, March 7, at Decatur Garden Center, 1551 Preskitt Rd. Cost is $15, which includes three CEUs, two integrated pest management and one general. Speakers are Monte Nesbitt and Bill Ree, both program specialists with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, and Charles Rohla, PH.D., pecan specialist with the Noble Foundation. They will discuss native and improved pecan orchard management, including young pecan orchard development, integrated pest management, training and pruning demonstrations, orchard floor renovations and maintenance, and fertility management. TECHNOLOGY EXPO – The Northwest ISD Techno Expo is 5 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Byron Nelson High School, 2775 Bobcat Blvd., in Trophy Club. Students will demonstrate their use of technology in the classroom – from animation and digital video to multimedia and website design – during a series of more than 300 breakout sessions and presentations beginning at 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be served by students in the district’s Academy of Culinary Arts and Hospitality 5 to 7 p.m., and musical performances will be provided by NISD fine arts students. Door prizes will be given away at the conclusion of the event.

NEW PLAYGROUND – Forestburg ISD is hosting a dinner and auction 6 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at the school to raise money for a new playground, which will include new equipment, interactive play designs and fixtures accessible to special needs children.
