A police officer was in the right place at the right time to quickly thwart the getaway attempt of a couple involved in a robbery attempt Thursday night at the Wal-Mart parking lot in Decatur.
Steven Silletti, 23, a former resident of Bridgeport, allegedly snatched the purse off a 40-year-old woman who was walking through the parking lot with her daughter. The 17-year-old daughter proceeded to chase Silletti. She was attempting to grab back her mom’s purse when the suspect punched her.
“The daughter tried to get it back, and she was assaulted,” said Decatur Police Chief Rex Hoskins. “Silletti then jumped into the back of a pickup.”
The pickup was driven by Jennifer Marsden, a 21-year-old from Haslet.
“An officer was already in the area, helping a citizen unlock their vehicle, when the call came in,” Hoskins said.
The officer stopped a vehicle matching the description on Farm Road 51 South in front of Wendy’s, and police were able to apprehend both suspects without incident.
The robbery occurred at 7:15 p.m. The two victims suffered no serious injuries.
Silletti and Marsden were both charged with robbery, a second-degree felony, punishable by two to 20 years in prison if found guilty. Silletti had outstanding warrants from Palo Pinto County for burglary of a habitation, credit card abuse and criminal trespass.
As of Friday afternoon both were still in Wise County Jail.
