Larry Givens’ gray pickup collided with the back axles of a northbound rock hauler and then into its trailer before coming to a halt. Decatur emergency responders pried Givens out with the jaws of life just before LifeTeam touched down. Traffic heading into Decatur was slowed to a crawl for at least an hour.

Givens suffered head injuries and was transported via helicopter to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, where he was listed in stable condition Tuesday morning. The semi’s driver was transported to Wise Regional Health System in Decatur with non-life threatening injuries.

According to Department of Public Safety Trooper Adolfo Patterson, the cause of the wreck is still unknown, but Givens was driving with a suspended license.
