Ryan O. Dodson, 26, was southbound when for unknown reasons he crossed over onto the oncoming lane of traffic, then over-corrected and ran into a metal culvert under a gravel drive.

According to a witness, the vehicle flipped at least three times before it came to a rest on its roof about 20 yards from the road.

“It flipped end-over-end,” said Department of Public Safety Trooper Gary Read.

The hood and roof were crushed, and an empty child seat was tossed from the vehicle, coming to rest in the grass near the wreckage.

After being freed from his car, Dodson was transported by ground ambulance to Denton Regional Hospital. He suffered a head injury in the crash, but it did not appear life-threatening, Read said.

No other vehicles were involved, and Dodson had no passengers in his vehicle.

Decatur Police Department, Decatur Fire Department, Wise County medics and state troopers all responded to the scene.
