A Forestburg man was flown to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth Friday night with a head injury after wrecking his dirt bike.

Jerry Walters was riding about 11 p.m. with two other men on County Road 2622 near Slidell. Among the three men, there were two dirt bikes and one all-terrain vehicle.

According to DPS spokesman Lonny Haschel, Walters’ front tire hit the back tire of the ATV. Walters tried to avoid the accident and ended up jumping from the bike.

He was not wearing a helmet.

Slidell Fire Department and Wise County medics, including Rescue 1, were called to the scene. Walters was transported to Slidell High School where he was airlifted to JPS.
