{{{*}}}A man was attacked in his front yard in Decatur Saturday afternoon after he confronted two men trying to enter his shed.

The attack occurred in the 100 block of East Carpenter Street.

“He was just sitting outside on his porch swing, drinking a beer, when he saw two subjects trying to enter his shed,” said Decatur Police Sgt. Mike Picha.

Homeowner Andres Hernandez, 35, approached the two suspects, who he described to officers as two black men, one being approximately 5’11″, 220 pounds, and the other was also about 5’11″ but heavy-set.

“Hernandez thought the two men were attempting to steal items from his shed,” Picha said.

During the confrontation, Hernandez punched one of the men in the head. The other man then threw Hernandez to the ground, got on top of him and started striking him hard with his elbow. The next thing Hernandez knew the two men were up and running toward Trinity Street. He said he hurled a rock at them as they ran away.

When officers arrived on the scene, Hernandez had a golf-ball sized knot on the side of his head, according to the incident report.

The two suspects have not been identified, and the case is still under investigation. It’s unclear at this point what charges the suspects would face if caught. Charges could range from simple assault to robbery.
