Local events will scare up a good time

Traditional trick or treating will be held in towns around the county Oct. 31, but there are a variety of organized events leading up to the scary holiday, guaranteeing optimal candy collection.

HAUNTED HOUSE – Alvord Project Graduation 2014 will hold a haunted house at the old middle school, located behind Alvord Express. Dates and times are 10 p.m. to midnight Friday, Oct. 25; 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Oct. 26; and 7 to 11 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31.

FALL FESTIVAL – Bridgeport Parks and Recreation will host Spooktacular 2013 Fall Festival 5:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Bridgeport Community Center. The free event includes candy, popcorn, cotton candy, games, a rock climbing wall, inflatables, EuroBungy, balloon animals and face painting. There will be magic shows at 5:45 p.m., 6:45 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. and a costume contest at 6:15 p.m.

FUN FEST – Boyd Fun Fest is all day Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Pumpkin Patch at the intersection of Texas 114 and Farm Road 730. There will be a barbecue cookoff, mud pit races, hay rides, monster truck rides and a Dash for Cash. All day passes are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Kids under 3 are free. FALL CARNIVAL – The Prairie View Elementary Fall Carnival is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. There will be food trucks, a silent auction, raffle prizes, face painting, a duck pond, ring toss, lollipop tree, dino dig, photo booth, bounce houses, hay ride, angry hawks, petting zoo, jail booth, roping game and haunted house. HALLOWEEN PARTY – The Decatur Public Library will host a children’s Halloween party 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29. Elementary-aged children are invited to enjoy games, activities and more at this come-and-go event. Costumes are optional but highly encouraged. For more information, call 940-393-0290.

TRICK OR TREAT – The Wise County Public Safety Fall Festival is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the Decatur Civic Center. Meet local emergency personnel and enjoy food, music and games. Admission is free.

FALL FUN – The 4th Annual Fall Festival at Senior Care Health and Rehabilitation Center in Decatur is 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29. There will be a live band, bounce house, games, cotton candy, hot dogs and face painting.

COSTUME PARADE – Bridgeport Main Street’s Suit Up and Say Boo Halloween parade is 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31. It will begin at the Bridgeport Stage and proceed down Halsell Street. For more information, call 940-683-3404.

HALLOWEEN FUN – Governor’s Ridge in Decatur will host a fall festival 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31. There will be free hot dogs and chips, bounce house, games, trick or treating, apple bobbing, face painting, cotton candy and prizes.
