A Benbrook woman remains in jail after she was arrested for allegedly stealing identities of multiple Wise County residents and using the personal information to obtain cell phones from Metroplex stores.
Mandy M. Turner, 32, was arrested Tuesday and charged with fraudulent use or possession of identifying information.
Security cameras caught Turner at Sprint store locations in Fort Worth and Irving where she allegedly used personal information of Wise County residents to obtain four cell phones. Wise County Sheriff’s Office investigators used images and video of the woman caught on store cameras to help identify Turner. She was wearing jeans and a Texas Longhorn’s football jersey in the video. They posted it on the Wise County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
“She had gotten access to some personal identification of some folks in Wise County and used it to get some cell phones,” said Wise County Sheriff David Walker. “Our investigators got a couple of names from people who’d seen the images.”
Thanks to the help of citizens who’d seen the images and the work of investigators, they were finally able to track down and arrest Turner.
Identifying information can include a Social Security number, date of birth, government-issued identification number or even information associated with a cell phone such as an individual’s cellular service account number. Fraudulent use or possession of identifying information is a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Turner already had an outstanding warrant out of Denton County for the same crime. She also had multiple traffic warrants out of the city of Hurst. As of Friday afternoon, she was still being held in Wise County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
