An inmate supervisor with the Wise County Sheriff’s Office was arrested Friday and charged with multiple counts of sexual assault of a child.
The Sheriff’s Office received a complaint on Tuesday, Jan. 29, that Jeff Shurbet, 47, of Paradise, an inmate work crew supervisor, had allegedly sexually assaulted a child multiple times.
Sheriff David Walker immediately suspended Shurbet without pay and removed him from county property pending the investigation. Due to the fact that he was a Sheriff’s Office employee, Walker contacted Texas Ranger Jim Holland and requested he begin a criminal investigation.
Holland conducted numerous interviews and gathered physical evidence. Holland then interviewed Shurbet, who confessed to the allegations and was subsequently charged with eight counts of felony sexual offenses.
Shurbet was arrested and booked into the Wise County Jail for seven counts of sexual sssault of a child, each second-degree felonies, and one charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony.
Justice of the Peace Terri Johnson set bond at $75,000 for each second degree felony and $120,000 on the first degree felony charge for a bond totaling $1,170,000. The case is still under investigation.
