Investigators said Carmen Miller, 56, was traveling northbound on Farm Road 730, near County Road 4470, behind a Chevrolet passenger car driven by Cassie Barbie, 22, of Boyd. Barbie had slowed and signaled her intention to turn left and was starting to turn when Miller attempted to pass her, striking the left rear of the car.
Miller was transported by AirEvac Lifeteam helicopter ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth with gashes on his head and multiple breaks and lacerations to his leg. Investigators said his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Although no citations had been issued at press time, Trooper Zeb Siebeneck said Miller will be ticketed for passing in a no-passing zone. He is also investigating the possibility that alcohol was involved.
The wreck shut down the southbound lane of the road, reducing traffic around the scene one lane at a time until the scene was cleared.
Boyd Fire Department, state troopers and Wise County medics responded.
I see this happen a lot. Not many people use their signal lights correctly. Either they turn them on too late or don’t turn them on at all. I hope Mr. Miller recuperates soon.
