Heithecker indicted for murder

A Decatur man accused of killing his mother in May has been indicted for murder by a Wise County grand jury, according to records that became available for public viewing this week.

Kirk Heithecker, 49, is accused of killing his 75-year-old mother, Nancy Heithecker, at the home they shared at 710 County Road 4270 south of Decatur sometime over Mother’s Day weekend. He remains in the Wise County Jail with bond set at $1 million.

An autopsy determined the cause of death was “homicidal violence” including blunt force trauma and strangulation. The indictment states that Heithecker caused the death of his mother by stomping or kicking her with his feet.

CARLTON INDICTED FOR ASSAULT/RECKLESS SHOOTING

Kenneth Carl Carlton Jr., 38, of Newark was indicted in a shooting in his Newark neighborhood on May 11.

Investigators say Carlton entered a neighbor’s home and pointed a gun at her head. For this, he was indicted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and burglary of a habitation with intent to commit another felony.

At one point, Carlton began firing at nearby cars and homes, investigators said. For that act, he was indicted for deadly conduct/discharging a firearm.

Finally, Carlton was accused of shooting at a neighbor who was running away from him. He was indicted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct/discharging a firearm.

No one was injured in the incident.
