A two-story duplex in Alvord was heavily damaged by fire Tuesday night.
The home’s resident, Brett Baker, was not at home when the fire was reported about 8 p.m. No one was injured.
The brick building with vinyl siding is located in the 300 block of West Franklin Street behind Market Place grocery store.
Alvord, Decatur, Chico and Sunset fire departments responded to battle the blaze and remained on the scene for more than four hours. An ambulance was also dispatched to provide rehab for firefighters.
Franklin Street was shut down in the area for hours as a fire hose stretched across the road from a fire hydrant.
Baker was visiting a friend in the hospital in Decatur when he got word that his home was on fire.
“Everything I own is in there,” Baker said moments after walking up to the scene, watching as firefighters used a ladder to climb onto the roof while flames flickered from the roof’s edge.
Baker said he had lived in the home for seven months.
Alvord Fire Chief Sam Hahn said an investigator with the Wise County Sheriff’s Office was looking into the cause of the blaze. It remains under investigation.
