Field fire chars 25 acres

GREAT BALES OF FIRE - About five hay bales, a baler and 25 acres burned in a field fire east of Bridgeport Saturday morning. Decatur and Paradise units assisted Bridgeport in extinguishing the blaze, which was mopped up by 3 p.m.

GREAT BALES OF FIRE – About five hay bales, a baler and 25 acres burned in a field fire east of Bridgeport Saturday morning. Decatur and Paradise units assisted Bridgeport in extinguishing the blaze, which was mopped up by 3 p.m.

A hay baler sparked a 25-acre fire east of Bridgeport Saturday around 11 a.m.

Bridgeport, Decatur and Paradise firefighters responded to the grass fire near Sandy Creek, off of Cuba Road.

Although no structures were involved, flames did engulf the hay baler and five bales of hay before burning through a heavy thicket of timber and brush.

A Bridgeport volunteer firefighter was transported to Wise Regional Health System in Bridgeport to be treated for heat exhaustion.

The fire was extinguished and the area mopped up by 3 p.m.
