Family Safety Fest set for next weekend

{{{*}}}A group of community partners will host the Wise Family Safety Fest, a free event focused on presenting safety topics in a fun and engaging format, on Saturday, April 27.

The event is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wise Regional Health System’s Decatur Campus, which is located at 609 Medical Center Drive The event will cover a variety of safety-related topics including water safety, bike safety, fire safety and weather safety.

Activities will include swimming skills evaluations in the Fit-N-Wise pool, a bicycle obstacle course, a texting and driving simulator, CPR and AED demonstrations, tours of emergency vehicles and much more.

Hot dogs and drinks will be provided. There will also be bike helmets and life jacket giveaways.

“As summer gets closer, it is important to teach local families how to enjoy our region’s resources responsibly,” said Lisa Ponce, Air-Evac program director. “We hope that providing education in a fun format will help prevent some tragic accidents in our community.”

Wise Family Fun Fest is presented by Wise Regional Health System, Air-Evac, Bridgeport Parks and Recreation, Decatur Fire Department, Runaway Bay Swimming Pool, Wise County EMS, Wise County Sheriff’s Office and Wise County volunteer fire departments.
