Education program focuses on caregivers

By Messenger Staff | Published Wednesday, March 13, 2013

Family caregivers of older adults, people of any age with disabilities and professionals are invited to participate in a toll-free telephone education program Monday, March 18, at noon or 7 p.m.

The topic for the 45-minute session is “If I Had Only Known: A Conversation with Experienced Family Caregivers.” Linda Hines, a caregiver for her mother, and Pat Sneller, a caregiver for her husband, will discuss techniques they’ve used to meet their family members’ needs, while caring for themselves. Moderator and licensed professional counselor Zanda Hilger will lead a question-and-answer session with participants and discuss resources.

The session is offered as part of a free, ongoing caregiver education program sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging of North Central Texas and the North Central Texas Aging and Disability Resource Center.

Participants can register online by going to caregiversos.org/caregiver-teleconnection and choosing one of the two sessions. They may also register by phone by calling toll free 1-866-390-6491 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Topics for programs in April include Alzheimer’s and medications.

For more information, email caregiver@att.net or call Zanda Hilger at 817-929-3535.
