District to extend a hand to West

By Messenger Staff | Published Saturday, May 11, 2013

The community of West may be getting a little assistance from Northwest.

During the construction report of Monday’s meeting, NISD officials will discuss donating furniture and fixtures to West ISD and allowing temporary use of portable building. The small town was devastated by a huge fertilizer plant explosion on April 17.

The board will also open the process to rename NISD Agricultural Sciences Learning Center to honor a staff or community member who had a passion and advocated strongly for the district’s ag program.

Trustees will hold a public hearing required to apply for federally funded programs; discuss a new electrical procurement strategy; award a bid for depository bank services; discuss revisions to the student code of conduct for the upcoming school year; extend an interlocal agreement with TASB for casualty insurance; and review the five-year agreement with Keller ISD for use of its swim center.

A report is also scheduled on the collegiate academy at Steele Accelerated High School.

Northwest school officials will continue talking budget prior to the regular meeting. In addition to hearing a financial update, trustees will finalize an employee compensation plan during a workshop at 5:30 p.m.. The plan, which includes a 2 percent increase at each pay grade, will be voted on during the regular meeting, slated to begin around 7 p.m.

Both will be held at the NISD Administration Building, 2001 Texan Drive.
