Garbage collection fees in Runaway Bay will increase by 2 percent beginning Jan. 1.

The city council Tuesday approved the hike in cost following a request by Progressive Waste Solutions, the city’s provider.

Residential accounts will increase 28 cents. Commercial customers will see an increase of $1.29 to $4.39 depending on the size of the container and number of pick-ups per month.

FIRE DEPARTMENT

During the meeting, the volunteer fire department received a few gifts from the council. Officials approved the $17,699 purchase of a cutter and spreader to be paid for in part with a $12,366 grant from Texas Forestry Service.

The council also transferred to the fire department fund $13,849 collected from donations throughout the year and at various fundraising events.

The council also approved the September meeting minutes, financials, accounts payable, activity reports and journal entries.
